The Clinical Mental Health Counseling program is designed to prepare students to function as professional clinical mental health counselors in community agency and a mental health setting. It is also the intent of the program to prepare graduates for licensure as professional counselors in Michigan. Students should consult with the appropriate authorities regarding requirements in the states or countries in which they wish to engage in clinical practice.
The School Counseling curriculum prepares students for counseling in elementary and secondary schools. The program includes the course work and experiences required for endorsement as a school counselor. Students working toward certification as K–12 school counselors should consult with the state licensing board in the state where they plan to work. Some states require teacher certification in order to obtain school counselor endorsement.
Educational Psychology is a broad field of study, which will open a wide range of employment choices. An MA in Educational Psychology can enhance your preparation to work in family life education, training programs in business and industry, early childhood education programs, special education centers, research related to schools and to human growth and development, the construction, administration, and evaluation of tests, student residence hall directors, and classroom teaching at elementary, secondary, and higher education levels. The MA in Educational Psychology can be the first stage en route to obtaining the EdS in School Psychology or the PhD in Educational Psychology.
